No to further opencast mining in Ravenstone
18 June 2007
I opposed the Ravenstone opencast for several reasons. Firstly, it is an eyesore on the wonderful landscape around Ravenstone and Packington. Secondly, whilst mining is in progress, it is causing a considerable negative effect for local businesses and householders. Thirdly, when mining is finished, the site could be filled in with water or possibly used as landfill. Again, this causes enormous environmental concerns. With all this in mind, I will do whatever I can to see there is no further opencast mining beyond what has already been approved..Pilot

Many thanks for your comment Kailofer. To make it clearer what is happening, I've changed Quarry to Opencast. Be assured, I intend to keep fighting this issue and show this Labour Government they can't ride roughshod over the people of NW Leics. |

What assurances can we have that it will not become a landfill. The remidiation plan has not mention of this but to be honest I don't trust UK coal (or the Government) on this one at all. It seems that we will now have to put up with the mine, we shouldn't have to put it with the threat of a landfill after this. |

It is not a quarry it is an opencast coal mine, which when it goes to a coal fired power station produces a lot of Co2. We need clean nuclear energy
