Andrew Bridgen MP celebrates 30 years of the Ashby University of the 3rd Age
Tuesday 28th August marked the celebration of the 30 year Anniversary of the National University of the 3rd Age. The local MP Andrew Bridgen attended the Ashby Congregational Church, Kilwardby Street to congratulate the volunteers of the Ashby group on their successful second year. A cake made by David North’s Deli in Ashby was cut to mark the celebration, and over 60 local people were in attendance.
The Ashby University of the 3rd Age is run for semi or fully retired people who want to get out and meet new friends and try new things in a cosy, sociable environment. The group share skills, talents and knowledge with each other, and meet weekly for activities such as calligraphy, walking, gardening, Italian, computing etc.
Andrew Bridgen MP said, “I am honoured to have been invited to such a special occasion. Groups such as these truly demonstrate the Big Society in action. I urge anyone who wishes to learn something new and meet new friends to get in touch with this welcoming group. I wish them a fantastic 3rd year ahead and I look forward to being invited back to the meeting as a guest speaker’.
