Local MP catches up with Coalville students
Local MP Andrew Bridgen has gone back to school to help a group of students studying the GCSE Citizenship Course.
Pupils at King Edward VII Science and Sport College, in Coalville, got the chance to quiz Andrew about the democratic system, Parliament and MPs, responsible society and getting your message heard.
As part of the course, and for their wider political literacy, students are required to consult with a person in a position of authority on their chosen topic of study. They then take these views, along with the views of others, to form their own informed opinion.
Andrew, the MP for North West Leicestershire, said: “I think this idea is superb, being able to discuss different topics and share my knowledge with the students was great and hopefully some of it will be beneficial.”
Students will participate in a Citizenship Fair in February, where they will be persuading others to adopt the same point of view.
Topics chosen by the classes this year include “Does anyone listen to young people in the UK?”, “Are men and women equal?”, “Are gangs a problem in NW Leicestershire?” and “Are celebrities entitled to a private life?”.
