MP invited to carers forum
Local MP Andrew Bridgen says it is vital to give support to Britain’s army of carers.
The MP for North West Leicestershire has been invited as a guest speaker to the Marlene Reid Centre’s Carers Forum in Coalville.
The Carers Forum, which was set up by Development Worker Sarah Hoult-Ellingworth and Project Assistant Bev Cowley, is held quarterly and enables carers to meet regularly and raise issues with service providers.
It also gives carers the opportunity to take a needed break from their busy daily role, and share their experiences with colleagues.
Andrew said: “It’s important to support Britain’s six million carers.
“In the UK, more than one million people care for someone for more than 50 hours a week, saving our country over £88 billion each year. Giving carers breaks is a key commitment for the Government.”
To enable authorities to budget for more breaks for carers, £100 million has been made available in NHS budgets this year.
