MP Opens New Car Auction Centre

24th October 2017
Andrew Bridgen opens Aston Barclay's new car auction centre at Donington Park motor racing circuit which will create up to 60 jobs.

The new flagship site is the fifth in the Aston Barclay network and can accommodate 400 used cars undercover and has two auction halls allowing auctions to be run simultaneously.

After receiving permission for the venture earlier this year, the firm has been busy developing the 18-acre site.

It will be using the circuit’s exhibition centre, known as the Engine Room, for auctions.

The company has transformed the building, creating 25 full-time and up to 35 part-time jobs in the process.

Andrew Bridgen officially opened the centre four months after a multi-million pound investment led by new chief executive Neil Hodson and investment company Rutland Partners.

The plan is to grow sales to 160,000 vehicles over the next five years.

More than 250 used cars were sold at the launch sale on behalf of blue-chip vendors including Motability and Hertz, and more than 150 buyers attended.

The launch sale was the first in a weekly fleet sales programme each Thursday from 10am, with a Tuesday dealer sale to be launched on October 17.

The auction has invested in new technology which means online buyers can get a 360-degree view of a used car’s exterior and interior.

Neil Hodson said: “Our vision for the group and Donington in particular from the outset was to introduce a range of new digital technologies that were going to make the remarketing experience more interactive and bridge the gap between the physical hall and the mobile space for both buyers and sellers, all supported by a first-class team.

“Buyers and vendors have responded very positively to the new technologies and there is still much more to come which will further integrate the buying and selling community.”

Back in June, Aston Barclay said it planned to open the Donington Park site by the end of this year – but work progressed quicker than envisaged and the opening date was brought forward.
