Post Office closures
About 2,500 post offices are expected to close by 2009 because of rising losses and fewer people using the network, the government has announced. This is in addition to the 4,000 that has already shut since 1999.Conservatives have called for sub-Post Offices to be given a greater freedom to offer a wider variety of products. “Labour have stripped out many of the services that make Post Offices financially viable such as TV Licensing”
November Update - The Post Office has announced that Post Offices in Heather and Packington will be closed. There is a 6 week consultation period, and in this time we are urging all residents of these villages to tell Post Office Ltd why their Post Office is so vital to them. The choice of Heather to close is very strange as their is no direct bus to the nearest alternative Post Office in Ibstock. More bad planning from this Labour Government.
NHS – Stop Brown's Cuts
Senior Conservatives have warned that the National Health Service is not safe in Gordon Brown's hands after the Chancellor snubbed the crisis-hit NHS in his Budget. After Mr Brown made virtually no mention of health issues during his hour long Commons statement, Shadow Health Secretary Andrew Lansley accused the Chancellor of abandoning the NHS. Shadow Chancellor George Osborne commented: "Mr Brown always claims the NHS is safe in his hands. But following the latest of his NHS cuts, we see that this is plainly untrue."
Mr Osborne stressed: "All over the country, we're seeing NHS cuts as a direct result of Gordon Brown blocking reform. We've got to stop Brown's NHS cuts - sacked workers and cancelled operations - by getting rid of the bureaucracy that's holding the NHS back."
Over the past few months, I have been campaigning against Gordon Brown's NHS cuts. Labour’s constant interference and waste has resulted in deficits approaching £1.3 billion, 20,000 job losses in NHS Hospitals and left many of our trainee doctors and nurses out of work. The local effects are being felt in this area with wards and jobs under threat at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and the threat of closure of
Local Conservatives clean up North West Leicestershire
Local Conservatives have been helping to tidy up North West Leicestershire by taking part in a Green Action Day.
Andrew Bridgen, Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for North West Leicestershire, led a team of volunteers working in Coalville as part of the Conservative Party’s Green Action Day events.
The group, calling themselves the “Tory Task Force”, cleared the area beside the railway line, starting at Belvoir Road. A total of 12 large bin bags of litter were collected, and the wooden safety handrails were repainted.
Andrew Bridgen said: “We have more plans for this area and parts of North West Leicestershire. We will be back in a few weeks to continue the work, and we are hoping to plant some bulbs in September so this time next year the area should look fantastic.
“This project is a great example of how small changes in an area can make a big difference to the local environment.”
If you would like to take part in the next Green Action Day, please contact North West Leicestershire Conservatives on 01530 277820.
