Andrew Bridgen MP for North West Leicestershire has reported the Labour Party to the  Equalities and Human Rights Commission after it admitted charging a different rate of entrance for those who are BAME to a Labour Rally addressed by Jeremy Corbyn, due to be held in Loughborough next month.

The rally was advertising a visitor pass for £40 and charging £30 for BAME visitors. Andrew took the matter to the Equalities and Human Rights Commission for breaching race equality legislation and discriminating against those who are not BAME.

In response the Equalities and Human Rights Commission have stated in response to the complaint ‘Charging people different rates because of their race is unlawful discrimination unless it can be shown that this is a proportionate way of addressing low levels of participation. We will be writing to the Labour Party to ask them for their justification for this policy’

Andrew Bridgen said ‘These actions by the Labour Party are nothing short of racism. In effect, Labour was levying a tax on the basis of the colour of a person’s skin, it shows their contempt for the white working class.’

‘I am pleased EHRC upheld my complaint against Labour, who must explain how this happened and ensure it is never repeated.’

The Labour Party have now changed the pricing structure of the event.
